Why 'Niji'?

Niji is the Japanese word for 'rainbow'.
My mentor Prof. Gábor Takács-Nagy would always parallel music to rainbows. The musical notes are connected by rainbows, similar to sound colours.

"Tamás is gifted in the art of teaching the violin and viola. His talent, knowledge, intelligence, patience, warm personality, love, and enthusiasm for his work allows his students to transform into splendid musicians. His students are lucky to have him!"

My Story

I was born and raised in a musically-involved family in Hungary, where I started learning the violin at the age of 4, which I later traded for the viola at 18.

I completed the Master of Viola Performance and Master of Teaching at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. After, I moved to Switzerland for further studies under the guidance of world-class musicians Professor Nobuko Imai and Professor Gábor Takács-Nagy.

Before focusing on my teaching career, I performed in concerts as a soloist and chamber musicians in Japan, Taiwan, Italy, France, Hungary, Germany, and Switzerland.

To share the beauty of violin and viola, I am now focused on teaching. I have abundant experience teaching in Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and Canada and am excited to continue my teaching journey in Japan!

What Students Say

Arianna.png

It is no doubt a challenge to teach an adult student who, for the first time in his 46 years, decides to pick up a violin. Tamas' patience, persistence and... more patience... has brought me to an RCM level 5 skill set in 2 short years.

With constant encouragement and challenges to tackle, varied teaching techniques and attention to details of form, function and accuracy, the lessons are always interesting and fun; 60 minutes have never passed by so quickly!  I am truly lucky to have found such an incredible teacher. Thank you Tamas!
